The Port Authority of Savona
manages a part of the Ligurian coast, from Albissola to Bergeggi, including
both basins of Savona and Vado
Ligure.
The main goal for Port Authority is to consolidate and to create development
opportunities amongst all the activities carried out in both basins, such
as trade, production and tourism, as well as to improve the waterfront,
to obtain a better synergy with city functions.
To achieve this goal, the Port Authority is paying the utmost attention
with regard to: the definition of development projects, the improvement
and the enlargement of port services, the obtainment of financial resources
and the promotion of new opportunities to attract investors and entrepreneurs.
Up to 1968, port's control and its activity were
managed by Ente Portuale Savona Piemonte,
in agreement with other companies working in this field.
Afterwards, in 1968 the Ente Autonomo del Porto
di Savona was established, for the control of port activities
as well as the management of technical and bureaucratic aspects.
In 1994 the former "Ente Porto" (Consortium) has been transformed
into Autorità Portuale (Port Authority),
in accordance with the port reform law
84/94, concerning the legislative reorganisation of port issues.
The Port Authority's main tasks are the orientation, the programming,
the co-ordination and control of port operations and of other activities
carried out in the port environment, the maintenance of common port areas,
the assignment and control of activities to supply general interest services.
This authorizes Port Authority to take the place
of the previous Institutions, Provincial Educational Offices, Mechanical
Equipment Companies and other Bodies involved in the control and management
of maritime-port property, enabling private operators to manage quays,
port areas and warehouses as well as commercial operations.
The most important result of this change was the restraint of rates
and quality's improvement.
Furthermore, thanks to the above mentioned law, the Port
Authority can guarantee the safeguard of free competition,
as well as the safety related to the risks of accident during port's
operation. Last but not least, port reform law 84/94 considers promotion
to be one of the Port Authority's main tasks and they are therefore
carried out in an effective manner, at a world level.
