This is one of the most important moment for the port of Savona which is going through a new development phase, as there are both necessary formal conditions, which means the planning instruments, and the possibility of starting-up new projects exploiting both public and private funds.
As a matter of fact, if on one side the procedures needed for the approval of the New Port Master Plan are near to be concluded and this will allow remarkable expansions of the port facilities, on the other side several works are in progress aiming at the completion of the actual Master Plan.

In Savona, the works for the realisation of the new dry bulk terminal at the Darsena Alti Fondali will soon be finished, while works such as the enlargement of the Steel Terminal, the construction of new storage sheds for forest products and a new warehouse for the storage of new vehicles are forthcoming.
Besides, the strengthening of cruise facilities will soon be completed with the enlargement of the quay and the construction of a new maritime station.
In Vado Ligure, the realisation of four new quays for the Ferry terminal is on the road to conclusion and a Ro-Ro quay dedicated to short-sea-shipping traffic is being strengthened. As far as private operators, several new projects have also been foreseen aiming at the improvement of the Fruit Terminal which ranks first in the Mediterranean Sea.

The completion of works actually in progress and the accomplishment of the ones foreseen by the new Port Master Plan open up to considerable growth prospects for port throughput; therefore, the development of the railway logistics is basically important to guarantee the competitiveness of the port and it represents a top priority.
Following this vision, the Port Authority of Savona has approved an articulated action plan to give a better efficiency to the logistics system, in order to provide services to the port: on one side the development of an association that will administrate the railway service between the port and the hinterland; on the other side through investments of considerable resources to improve technical equipment for the in-line service and for the modernisation of railway network inside and outside the two port basins.

This way, the port of Savona Vado has been strengthened by Port Authority’s action thanks to a clear and well-balanced development program that can be shared by operators and the entire territory, as an essential condition to assure the harmonic growth of port activities and life quality and to guarantee the utmost level of the services offered.
